Green Party sees growth in state

HARTFORD-- Green Party of Connecticut officials announced continued growth
looking at the 2005 municipal election in the state and across the country.

Strong showing in local elections, with second place finishes, new and first
time races and growth of large numbers of new voters highlight the Green
Party's 2005 election results.

Nationwide, 34 Greens were elected this year, bringing the total to about
223 Greens in elected office, said Tim McKee, Connecticut Green Party
national committee person. Jean de Smet, running for first selectman in
Windham, lost by 665 votes, but finished second, beating the Republican
candidate.
