A "Clean Beaches-Close Millstone" rally will be held at noon Sunday in
Liberty Park.
The rally is sponsored by the Connecticut Coalition Against Millstone and
the Connecticut chapter of the Sierra Club.

The coalition contends that Millstone Power Station's nuclear reactors in
nearby Waterford pollute Long Island Sound.

Dominion, the owner of the nuclear complex, could mitigate radioactive
effluent by converting its cooling system, which uses ocean water, to a
self-contained, closed system, coalition leader Nancy Burton said.

Dominion disputes the organization's claims and maintains that radioactive
releases in water and air are safely below thresholds set by the federal
government.

The park is at the corner of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in
Niantic.

A march to nearby Hole-in-the-Wall Beach will follow the rally.

The rain date is July 2.
