Subject: [BTvS-CT] This Wednesday - DR. STEPHEN P. COHEN at Yale's Slifka
Center

Dear Friend of Brit Tzedek,

We are so pleased that Dr. Stephen P. Cohen will be speaking in New Haven
again, THIS WEDNESDAY AT YALE'S SLIFKA CENTER AT 8 PM (please see below for
detailed information). Dr. Cohen's lecture in New Haven last year on the
historical background and implications of the Palestinian and Israeli
elections was deeply informative and moving. You are cordially invited to
join us for what promises to be a special evening.

Another event the day afterwards that is not sponsored by Brit Tzedek but
may be of interest to you:

RABBI MICHAEL LERNER speaking on "Needed: A New Spiritual Left and how it
could help to end the war in Iraq," April 19 at 7:30 in the Yale Law School
auditorium, sponsored by the Orville H. Schell, Jr. Center for Human Rights
at Yale Law School, Yale Divinity School, and Joseph Slifka Center for
Jewish Life at Yale.

We hope you can join us on Wednesday and Thursday for these events!

Aaron and Debbie

Dr. Stephen P. Cohen is a Visiting Professor of Religion and Conflict
Resolution at the Yale Divinity School. He is a leader in the practice and
theory of unofficial diplomacy known as Track Two Diplomacy. Since 1975
when he first traveled to Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and the Palestinian areas,
he has pioneered efforts to bring Arabs and Israelis together. He presents
original ideas and approaches to advancing peace and peaceful relations to
leaders of Israel, the Palestinians and the Arabs, as well as top American
officials.

Dr. Cohen founded the Institute for Middle East Peace and Development in
1979 to serve as facilitator and private intermediary in peace-making and
peace-building and has served as its President ever since.

The Institute created the first group of Arab and Jewish businessmen to
cooperate on peace and economic development of the West Bank and Gaza. It
was the first to bring major social scientists from Israel, Egypt and the
Palestinians into joint research on their conflict.

Dr. Cohen created the first secret official negotiations between Israel and
the PLO years before Oslo under the supervision of Chairman Arafat and
Shimon Peres. He also has developed close relations with Israeli leaders
from all parties, Labor and Likud, religious and secular, and with Arab
heads of state, foreign ministers, and leading figures in almost every state
in the Arab world.
