  The road ahead for the Green Party in Connecticut and nationally will be the topic explored tonight during a public meeting at Russell Library.

Tim McKee, a national committee member for the Green Party in Connecticut, will lead a discussion of the party's plans for the 2008 election and beyond starting at 7 p.m.

"We're trying to revitalize and organize in the Middletown area," McKee said in a telephone interview Monday evening.

Among those present will be Scott Deshefy of Lebanon, a retired environmental scientist with the state Department of Environmental Protection, who is seeking the Green Party's endorsement to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2nd Congressional District. That seat is held by Joe Courtney, a Democrat.

Though Middletown is in the 3rd Congressional District, Deshefy said Monday he plans to speak briefly at the meeting. He also will be available to answer questions. 

McKee also will discuss the presidential race and the Green candidates for the office, including: West Virginia actor and activist Jesse Johnson; former U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney of Georgia, formerly a Democrat and now a Green candidate; air quality scientist Kent Mesplay, of California; and Texas activist Kat Swift. 

According to McKee, former Green Party candidate Ralph Nader, a native of Winsted, has formed an exploratory committee and has been on several Green Party primary ballots already.
