This is what I like to see in a placeholder campaign: besides holding the ballot line (assuming he gets 1%), Remy has also gained a little recognition for the Green Party, he's promoted our other candidates, and he's gotten some publicity for his own activist work (the Environmental Library Fund).

Because there's no Democrat in the race, it's even possible Remy will get more than 10% of the vote without any campaigning.

STATE HOUSE RACE: Chevalier candidate in name only

Monday, November 03, 2008

Remy Chevalier, the Green Party candidate in the state 135th House District race, is a candidate in name only.

That’s what Chevalier, a Weston resident, said when he opted not to provide answers to questions from Hersam Acorn Newspapers for its pre-election issue.

His name on the ballot, Chevalier said, is “a placement” to help the Green Party establish itself “as a viable party.” He later added that he is not running “an official campaign...,” but hopes the party will have “someone interested in genuinely running” in the future.

His focus is on the campaign of Richard Duffee, the Green Party’s candidate for the 4th Congressional District. Chevalier is Mr. Duffee’s campaign manager.

“The Green Party stands for certain values and issues. We hope to bring more attention to what those are,” Chevalier said. “We are really spread thin, so it’s just my name on the ballot. We’re putting our energies into the Duffee campaign because he stands to get a good amount of votes.”

Chevalier is a “mastermind” at the Environmental Library Fund, a private “green” think tank. It is a position he has held since 1984. He lists his education at the American University of Paris on a profile found online. He is a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists.

Remy Chevalier is running against John Stripp, the Republican incumbent.
