State Greens challenge presidential vote tallies

Officials from the Connecticut Green Party will file a complaint alleging
write-in votes for the party's presidential nominee, Cynthia McKinney, were
not counted by election officials, a spokesman said this week.

In a statement, the party officials charged that the party's vote totals in
Congressional races ran far higher than the totals recorded for McKinney in
the presidential race, and also said individual voters were told at polling
places on Election Day that their write-in votes wouldn't count.

The party decided to file the complaint after election officials in several
towns refused to disclose their lists of write-in votes.

"We gave the election officials one week to show us the numbers BUT my town
of Manchester shows I did not write in McKinney for President, and State Co-
Chair Mike De Rosa did not write in McKinney in Wethersfield accounting to
the Secretary of the State's web site," said Tim McKee, a Green Party
spokesman.

The party "had about 25,000 votes for our 5 (Connecticut) Congressional
candidates, but only 58 write in for President?" McKee said. "In 2004, we
had 9,524 for David Cobb for President, so the numbers do not add up to us."
