Green Party candidate for Congress qualifies for ballot; supports impeaching
Bush

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Richard Duffee has qualified for the ballot as the Green Party candidate for
Congress in the Fourth Congressional District, which includes Bridgeport.

Duffee said he has received notification from the secretary of the state's
office. Duffee has unsuccessfully run for the seat in the past.

The district now is represented by Republican Congressman Christopher Shays,
who is facing a challenge from Democrat Jim Himes.

Duffee said his top issue is to demand that the United States fully comply
with international law. He said the United States should ratify the charter
of the International Criminal Court and allow for the prosecution of
President George Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and other American
officials as war criminals.

He also wants Bush and Cheney impeached and indicted under U.S. law.

"Our worst international problems are a blowback from our illegal
activities," Duffee said.

In addition, he said all CIA covert operations should be banned because they
are offenses against the laws of the nations where they are carried out.

Other issues Duffee will promote are lowering carbon emissions by at least
80 percent by 2030 without using nuclear power, passing universal
single-payer health coverage, and revitalizing the Legal Services
Corporation, which provides free civil attorney services to low-income
Americans.

In addition, he favors the elimination of all U.S. weapons of mass
destruction and shutting down the 725 U.S. military bases outside the
country.

For the first time, in 2008 the Green Party has candidates for Congress in
all five congressional districts of Connecticut.
