Brown knows the outside world has a term for these catastrophic weather
shifts:*climate change*. He knows there have been summits and debates
and policies on the matter...The Choctaw cultural identity has always
hinged on an intimate connection with the environment, says Wilson
Roberts, a tribal elder and spiritual teacher. "In my mother's teaching,
I was always taught that all animals and life-bearing things are just
like us," he says. "We're a part of them, they're a part of us. We're
supposed to take care of each other and look out for each other."
Biggest US coal company funded dozens of groups questioning*climate
change*

Peabody, the world's biggest private sector publicly traded coal
company, was long known as an outlier even among fossil fuel companies
for its public rejection of*climate science*and action. But its funding
of*climate*denial groups was only exposed in ...documents suggest(ing)
Peabody supported dozens of groups engaged in blocking environmental
regulations in addition to a number of contrarian scientists who
together have obstructed US and global action on climate change. The
support squares up with Peabody’s public position on climate change. The
company went further than the fossil fuel companies and conservative
groups that merely promoted doubt about the risks of climate change,
asserting that rising carbon emissions were beneficial.
What Future Does*Arctic*Oil Have?

The horizontal white line is unmistakable. A white blanket and an icy
sea that cover a "warm" core of hydrocarbons that, recently, seems to
have lost its attractiveness.. In this regard, the message of Hillary
Clinton, Democratic presidential candidate, was immediately clear: "the
Arctic is a unique treasure, and we cannot run the risk of exposing it
to new drilling." Clinton’s position satisfies the hopes of
environmentalists, who are asking White House candidates to adopt a
harder line on the development of fossil fuels than the approach taken
during current President Obama’s 2 terms in office..
This luxury cruise ship will soon sail through the*Arctic*. Here's

On Aug. 16, the ship, full of creature comforts, will set out to travel
through one of the world's harshest sea routes - the icy and isolated
waters of the Northwest Passage through the*Arctic*Ocean. It will wind
through narrow waters in far northern Canada*...A luxury vessel, the
$350 million Crystal Serenity can carry up to 1,070 passengers and 655
crew members, and measures 820 feet long. On board, you'll find a
casino, a library, penthouses and shops with name brands like Gucci,

The Ablation Season Starts in Greenland
<http://polarportal.dk/en/nyheder/arkiv/nyheder/the-ablation-season-starts-in-greenland/>*
The ablation season in Greenland is the name scientists give to the
period when the ice sheet loses more mass from melting along the edges
than it gains from snowfall on top. This is usually June, July and
August. Scientists at the Polar Portal define the start of the ablation
season as the first of three days in a row when the ice sheet loses more
than 1 Gigatonne of ice from its surface to the ocean.

Scientists use*climate*, population changes to predict diseases

Reuters -
LONDON British scientists say they have developed a model that can
predict outbreaks of zoonotic diseases - those such as Ebola and Zika
that jump from animals to humans - based on changes in*climate*... The
model also has the potential to look at the impact of global change on
many diseases at once, she said. Around 60 to 75 percent of emerging
infectious diseases are so-called "zoonotic events", where animal
diseases jump into people. Bats in particular are known to carry many
zoonotic viruses. The Ebola and Zika viruses, now well known, both
originated in wild animals, as did many others including Rift Valley
fever and Lassa fever that affect thousands already and are predicted to
spread with changing environmental factors.
