New York Times -6 hours ago
MARRAKESH, Morocco - Diplomats at an annual United Nations*global
warming*summit meeting here expressed shock at the election of
Donald J. Trump, who has called*climate change*a hoax and vowed to
withdraw the United States from the Paris*climate*change accord,
worrying that Mr. Trump’s presidency could cripple a decade of
climate diplomacy...
And some called for retaliation to compel American compliance.
Nicolas Sarkozy, the former president of France, who is again
running to lead his country, suggested imposing a carbon tariff on
imports from the United States, based on the amount of carbon
dioxide pollution emitted to produce various goods...*.*
The media claims*climate*isn't a winning issue. Polls say otherwise.

political horse race, rather than, say, policy or stuff that matters
to most voters.

It’s no secret fossil fuel companies will have to fundamentally
change their business models if countries are serious about tackling
climate change...With so much skin in the game, it’s no surprise
they find ways to try and influence climate policy at the highest
level.....The international climate talks in Marrakech this week has
provided the perfect opportunity for corporate lobbyists and climate
science deniers to push their high carbon agendas....Prior to the
COP22 negotiations currently underway in Marrakech, Corporate
Accountability International released a map showing how fossil fuel
representatives can get access at the highest level....Many of the
groups they identify do indeed have a presence in the inner ‘blue
zone’ of the talks, where negotiators meet to hammer out the details
of global climate policy. (Most non-state actors and companies are
officially consigned to the ‘green zone’ in a separate section of
the venue).

Military, Security Leaders Deliver Climate Change Briefing Book to
President-Elect
<https://climateandsecurity.org/2016/11/14/climate-and-security-briefing-book-for-the-president-elect/>

Washington, DC – In the wake of last week’s election, the Center for
Climate and Security is delivering a Briefing Book for a New
Administration to the President-elect. The book of recommendations
was developed by the Climate and Security Advisory Group (CSAG), a
voluntary, non-partisan group of 43 U.S.-based senior military,
national security, homeland security, and intelligence experts,
including the former Commanders of U.S. Pacific and Central Command,
and former Special Assistant to President Reagan for National
Security Affairs....
Climate change presents risks that must be managed, no matter one’s
political perspective. As recently noted in a consensus statement
from key members of the national security community, “the effects of
climate change present a strategically-significant risk to U.S.
national security” and require a “comprehensive policy” in response....
The Center for Climate & Security in its briefing book argues that
climate change presents a risk to U.S. national security and
international security, and that the United States should advance a
comprehensive policy for addressing the risk. The recommendations,
released earlier this year, were developed by the Climate and
Security Advisory Group, a voluntary, nonpartisan group of 43
U.S.-based senior military, national security, homeland security and
intelligence experts, including the former commanders of the U.S.
Pacific and Central commands. *...*
*Climate and Security Advisory Group: Briefing Book for a New
Administration <https://climateandsecurity.org/briefingbook/>*
The CSAG’s recommendations include:
Assigning a cabinet-level official to lead on domestic climate
change and security issues;
Establishing senior climate security leadership within the offices
of the National Security Advisor and Secretary of Defense
Directing the Secretary of Homeland Security to develop a National
Adaptation and Resilience Strategy
Prioritizing climate change in intelligence assessments.

Duke Energy Seeks $$$ Sanction against its Critics
<http://www.ncwarn.org/2016/11/duke-energy-seeks-sanction-against-its-critics/>
In long-running fight over fracked gas power plant, utility urges
state appeals court to penalize groups and leave regulators as
judge, jury and executioner
Statement by NC WARN's Jim Warren and Dr. Harvard Ayers of The
Climate Times:
Durham, NC - In a case with sweeping environmental and legal
ramifications, attorneys for NC WARN and The Climate Times responded
yesterday to Duke Energy's request for financial sanctions against
us for attempting to appeal the fast-track regulatory approval of a
$1 billion fracked gas-burning power plant. As attorney Matt Quinn
wrote to

NC Court of Appeals, any sanction would have the drastic effect of
allowing the NC Utilities Commission to place itself above court
review of its decisions "by issuing extravagant yet unchallengeable
bond orders."

(article + video) On Trump and climate, America is split in two by these
demographics
<http://www.skepticalscience.com/trump-climate-america-demographic-split.html>
Do not be fooled by what the media is attempting to present as a
smooth transition of power, a quirky one to be sure, but generally
falling within American political tradition. Do not believe Trump’s
condescending tweet damning liberal protesters with faint praise.
“President Trump” cannot end well.
Political ideology was the single strongest determining factor in
the election. 90% of Republicans voted for Trump, while 89% of
Democrats voted for Clinton. Ideology is also the primary factor
associated with acceptance or denial of human-caused global warming,
as climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe explained eloquently in this

*(opinion) No, Everything Is Not Going to Be Alright - by Ted Rall
<http://www.commondreams.org/views/2016/11/15/no-everything-not-going-be-alright>*
Trump’s wide-eyed expression as he sucked in his new DC digs,
pathetically reminiscent of the stupefied expressions of Bolshevik
revolutionists wandering the Winter Palace, brought it home: the
barbarians are at the gate...
Before we get started, forget impeachment. Impeachment is a
political process, not a legal one. With Republicans in control of
both houses of Congress, the chances of Republicans impeaching a
Republican president are pretty much zero.
Second, forget constitutional checks and balances. Weimar Germany
had a lovely constitution, in many ways better than ours, but
constitutions are mere paper unless they’re enforced by people.
Current examples: Guantánamo, immigration prisons, drone
assassinations and secret black site CIA prisons are all brazenly
unconstitutional. If Trump and his henchmen want to trash legal and
political precedent, nothing institutional will stop them.
Finally, Democrats who place their hope in recapturing Congress in
two years need to get real. There aren’t enough available red seats
for that to happen in 2018. If anything, they’ll probably lose even
more ground. Trumpism is here to stay, for at least four
years....http://www.commondreams.org/views/2016/11/15/no-everything-not-going-be-alright

White House stance on climate change 'terribly disappointing' and
said inaction in the face of mounting scientific data was unjustified."
