Storm Hermine's damage fueled by global warming, scientists say
<https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/sep/04/storm-hermine-damage-global-warming>*

Storm surges pushed by Hermine, the once and future hurricane that
on Sunday was moving up the US eastern seaboard, could be even more
damaging because sea levels have risen by a foot due to global
    warming, climate scientists say.
Michael Mann of the Pennsylvania State University noted that this
century's one-foot sea-level rise in New York City meant 25 more
square miles flooded during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, causing
billions more in damage..."We are already experiencing more and more
flooding due to climate change in every storm," said Michael
Oppenheimer, a geosciences professor at Princeton University. "And
    it’s only the beginning."

*(video news) Dakota Access Pipeline Company Attacks Native American
Protesters with Dogs & Pepper Spray*
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuZcx2zEo4k>

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuZcx2zEo4k On September 3, the
Dakota Access pipeline company attacked Native Americans with dogs
and pepper spray as they protested against the $3.8 billion
pipeline's construction. If completed, the pipeline would carry
about 500,000 barrels of crude per day from North Dakota's Bakken
oilfield to Illinois. The project has faced months of resistance
from the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and members of nearly 100 more
tribes from across the U.S. and Canada.

Prof Andrew Guzman <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7UL_HlP_cM>*

World Affairs Council Lecture posted at Understanding Climate
    Change <https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo-r5Q-5TWB43oLI8eZ6euA>
This is a great and important lecture - he addresses risk, danger
and climate science We have "The harm from climate change will be
so ubiquitous and so devastating that it is under appreciated. " He
is the author of the book Overheated: The Human Cost of Climate
    Change
    <https://www.amazon.com/Overheated-Human-Cost-Climate-Change/dp/0199360723/ref=sr_1_1>.
"We have already shot ourselves in the foot, now we have to be
careful not to shoot ourselves in the head." Also discussion. This
is the one video you want to view.

Michael E. Mann Not Seen For 1000 Years: Rise in Global Temperatures
    Ushering In New Epoch <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3GYiery4uk>
(18 min video) Dr. Mann says he's optimistic on the ability of
humans to remedy the current environmental quagmire. Market signals
the damage to the fossil fuel economy. Need to dis-incentivize the
carbon fuel economy...optimistic about changes. Facing the
Anthropocene: The Earth's New Geological Era
    <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7uoqq3uV1U> (12 min video)
interview with Ian Angus, author of the new book "Facing the
Anthropocene - fossil capitalism and the crisis of the earth
system", he explains the significance of a new epoch marked by an
unprecedented level of human impact on the Earth ..."It's easier to
imagine the end of the world than to imagine the end of capitalism"

*Global warming is melting the Greenland Ice Sheet, fast
<https://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2016/aug/25/global-warming-is-melting-the-greenland-ice-sheet-fast>*

The Greenland Ice Sheet is losing 110 million Olympic size swimming
pools worth of water each year. ... It is this last type of ice loss
that most affects ocean levels because as the water runs into the
oceans, it raises sea levels. This is in contrast to melting sea ice
    – since it is already floating in ocean waters, its potential to
raise ocean levels is very small....the western side of the ice
sheet is losing much more ice than the eastern side. They also found
that a small part of the ice sheet (less than 1% of the sheet) is
responsible for more than 10% of the mass loss....To put this in
perspective, the Greenland Ice Sheet is losing approximately 110
million Olympic size swimming pools worth of water each year.
