Church Leaders Are Begging Their State's Senator To Give Up *Global
    Warming* Denial

"We see no conflict between our religious faith and the findings of
    science."
"We cannot remain silent while a U.S. senator from Montana chooses
willful ignorance of the greatest threat this state has ever faced
and which is already causing extreme damage to our cherished Montana
environment," said the church leaders - the Reverends Amy Carter and
Laura Folkwein of the United Church of Christ in Missoula; the
Reverend Susan Barnes of the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in
Billings; and Father Robert Grosch of the nearby St. Patrick
    Co-Cathedral.
"The simple moral truth is that United States is by far the world's
largest historic contributor to the climate crisis and therefore
bears the greatest responsibility for addressing it," they added.
The one Catholic priest and three Protestant clergy criticized Sen.
Steve Daines (R-Mont.) in an op-ed published by the Missoulian
Thursday for failing to understand climate change's role in a
widespread fish kill in Yellowstone National Park last summer.

In 2014, Bozmoski and Inglis founded republicEn, a group of about
3,000 people all over the US trying to create a grassroots movement
of "conservative climate realists." "We want to give them a voice,"
That's not how all hunters approach climate change. Randy Newberg, a
hunter and advocate for hunting on public lands, has no qualms about
acknowledging the problem. "If you spend as much time in the hills
as I do, I don't know how you could deny that climate is changing,"
he says. Deniers exist, "but honestly, I call them the flat-Earth
society," he adds. Many hunters see climate change as a serious
threat to the wildlife and public lands they want to protect for
future generations. That's what's been driving the conservation
movement for decades in the US, and it should not be a liberal or a
conservative issues, says Newberg, who identifies as an Independent.
"Maybe I'm naive and too idealistic for today's political world," he
says, "but I struggle to understand how is it that clean air and
clean water and productive lands are a partisan issue. To me,
    they're an American issue."

*RepublicEn - Conservatives Solve Climate Change
    <http://www.republicen.org/>*
By banding together with other ecoRight conservatives, you turned
climate warming from an afterthought into a priority for
conservative lawmakers. Senators and Representatives began to
champion climate realism and free-enterprise solutions.
Conservatives led. American came together. The world followed. You
were proud. Now, this climate crisis isn't looking so ominous.
Energy poverty is subsiding. American technology is accelerating a
    clean-energy revolution around the world.

*Trump Preparing Order to Expand Offshore Oil Drilling
<https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2017-04-06/trump-said-to-ready-order-to-expand-oil-drilling-in-u-s-waters>*

President Donald Trump is preparing to issue an executive order with
the goal of giving oil companies more opportunities to drill
offshore, reversing Obama-era policies that restricted the activity.
The offshore drilling directive is set to be issued soon, Interior
Secretary Ryan Zinke told an industry conference in Washington on
Thursday, according to three attendees who spoke on condition of
anonymity to discuss a session closed to the press. Zinke did not
provide specific details on the executive order during his
presentation to the National Ocean Industries Association.
The coming order is set to push the Interior Department to schedule
sales of new offshore oil and natural gas rights in U.S. Atlantic
and Arctic waters, amending a five-year Obama administration leasing
plan that left out auctions there, according to an industry
representative who has discussed it with officials.

*Opening Arctic for Drilling Is Trump Priority, Key Senator Says
    <https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-03-10/opening-arctic-for-drilling-is-trump-priority-key-senator-says>*
Any decision to open up ANWR would fall to Congress, where Murkowski
and Sullivan are pushing legislation that would allow oil and gas
development in as much as 2,000 acres of the refuge...
The president can set some changes into motion immediately by
directing the Interior Department to rewrite a plan for selling
offshore oil and gas leases over the next five years and add
auctions of tracts in the Arctic and Atlantic oceans that the Obama
administration left out. But wedging those sales back into the plan
would require environmental analysis and public comment periods --
perhaps consuming a year for the Arctic and even longer for parcels
    along the U.S. East Coast.

Seventeen Republican House members have broken with their president
and publicly urged Congress to act on climate change. More are
    expected to join them
US president Donald Trump's climate change skepticism has forced a
clutch of Republicans in the House of Representatives out of the
    climate closet...
The populist wave that carried Trump to his surprise victory was
stridently anti-climate change, though climate was rarely mentioned
    on the campaign trail...
The Republican base has for years rejected top-down regulations and
policies that would raise the price of fossil fuel energy. So
Republicans in districts that swing between their party and the
Democrats have been faced with a choice on climate: capture the base
    or play the middle.

As modernity creeps into Tanna, Vanuatu, climate change is just one
of many new challenges. We cannot fight the former without
    understanding the whole...
On our way to a remote forest village on Tanna, an island in the
Tafea province of Vanuatu, we stop at Lenakel to buy water.
We are here to work with four remote villages on Tanna to address
the existing impacts of climate change and to develop adaptation
projects. We are here to help, but our presence is also symptomatic
of the march of the modern to Tanna....
I am part of a research team consisting of a forest ecologist and
climate change science expert, two oceanographers, a sustainable
tourism doctoral candidate, a coastal geographer and myself, an
    environmental communication scholar..
...two basic premises of an aboriginal world view. These are:
         - The Land is Law
         - You are not alone in the world.
As a majority indigenous population and with a still strong
commitment to custom, Tannese people seemingly share this perspective.

**In the New York Times, climate scientist Michael
Oppenheimer declares: "The threat of global warming, first raised in
1896, has outlived many foreign policy crises. Our failure to deal
with it is starting to bear a bitter harvest not only in rising seas
and intensified rainstorms, but also in disruption of long-standing
alliances, and interference with other foreign policy objectives. It
is well past time for U.S. leaders to put the climate problem at the
center of America's domestic and international agendas."
