February's Warmth, Brought to You by*Climate Change*
    <http://www.climatecentral.org/news/february-warm-weather-climate-change-21232>

Climate Central -‎9 hours ago‎

A bonanza of heat records fell throughout February in almost all
quarters of the U.S. and research released on Wednesday shows that
this pervasive spring-like warmth was made possible by climate
change. The rise in planetary heat made the freakishly warm February
at least three times more likely than it was around 120 years ago,
according to the analysis by scientists working on the World Weather
Attribution team. While it was a month to remember, by mid-century
that type of heat could occur every three years unless carbon
    pollution is curtailed....
This February fits right in line with that trend. It was the second
warmest on record for the U.S., trailing only 1954, according to the
National Centers for Environmental Information. The U.S. average for
February was 7.3°F above normal, the fifth-most anomalously warm
month ever recorded. In all, 16 states had their warmest February on
record from Texas to New York...

*Congressional Energy and Climate Committees Are Loaded with Ex-Fossil
Fuel Lobbyists
<https://www.desmogblog.com/2017/03/08/congress-energy-climate-committees-ex-lobbyists>*

Though the U.S. Congress has been in session for two months, much of
the policy action which has taken place since Donald Trump assumed
the presidency on January 20 has centered around his Executive Orders...
As some have pointed out, Trump's first speech in front of a joint
session of Congress on February 28 can be seen as a reset moment,
with the clock ticking on Republicans to deliver on promises made to
voters in the 2016 election. In the energy and environment sphere,
those efforts will likely center around gutting climate and
environmental protections, and much of it will be carried out by
    congressional committee staffers.
A DeSmog investigation has revealed that many Republican staff
members on key committees are former fossil fuel industry lobbyists,
which could help fast-track the industry's legislative agenda in the
weeks and months ahead. In total, 15 staffers on the eight main
energy and environment congressional committees previously worked as
industry lobbyists on behalf of oil, gas, mining, coal,
petrochemical, and electric utility interests. ..
To date, only eight bills have passed through Congress in 2017, and
only one in the energy and environmental bucket. Just as crucial,
though, congressional staffers could aid in what Trump's
controversial top adviser Steve Bannon recently called the
    "deconstruction of the administrative state."..

MIT professor Richard Lindzen's contrarian views about climate
change, which have long provided the appearance of credibility to
those who deny human activity is causing the planet to warm, have
caused deep angst among his colleagues at the university's vaunted
program in atmospheres, oceans, and climate...
Now, the retired professor has spurred the rest of the program's
faculty to write a letter to President Trump rebutting Lindzen's
position that climate change doesn't pose a threat worth addressing
and informing him that their colleague doesn't represent their views
or those of the vast majority of other climate scientists...
In their rebuttal, the 22 MIT scientists urged Trump to recognize
that Lindzen's views run counter to the preponderance of evidence
that climate change is a growing threat...
"The risks to the Earth system associated with increasing levels of
carbon dioxide are almost universally agreed by climate scientists
to be real ones," they wrote. "These include, but are not limited
to, sea level rise, ocean acidification, and increases in extreme
flooding and droughts, all with serious consequences for mankind.".
The scientists noted how professional organizations such as the
American Meteorological Society and the American Geophysical Union
have endorsed policies to curb emissions and address climate change.....

which traps solar radiation in the Earth's atmosphere. Over the past 200
years, humans have consumed more and more fossil fuels, leading to
