*Climate scientists are linking the Europe heat wave to climate change*
CBS News - Published on Jun 30, 2019
Climate scientists have linked the heat wave hitting Europe to man-made
climate change. This comes as several countries on the continent are
breaking temperature records. Meteorologist and CBS News weather
contributor Jeff Berardelli joined CBSN to discuss the connection.

*Decarbonisation in the USA : New report says "SLOW DOWN!"*
Just Have a Think
Published on Jun 30, 2019
Decarbonisation to mitigate global warming is a crucial and urgent
priority. That's what we're hearing from our scientists and (most)
governments. But a new report from energy consultants Wood Mackenzie
suggests caution and a slower transition. This week we look at their
findings.

*Update on the State of the Planet: How Then Shall We Live?*
Dahr Jamail - Environmental Journalist...has spent several years
researching what he labels "anthropogenic climate disruption," also
referred to as human-caused climate change. In this presentation, he
shares some findings of his research, which will be included in his
soon-to-be-published book, "The End of Ice." He presents compelling -
and sobering - information about the rise in the Earth's surface
temperature, the melting of the polar ice caps, and sea level rise.
Jamail then talks about the human response to these very serious
problems, and how people can cope and cooperate with each other in the
face of them.

*The Fossil Fuel Money Behind Oregon Walkout: *
Some Republican lawmakers returned to the Senate on Saturday to end
their week-long walkout on the state's cap-and-trade bill, allowing
the body to vote to send the legislation back to committee and
essentially block its passage. A piece in The Nation calls back to
an Oregonian investigation from this February to take a closer look
at the fossil fuel money behind the 11 GOP senators who walked out,
reporting that the state's weak campaign finance laws have allowed
industry to leverage influence to stop several environmental bills.
Per the Oregonian, 65 percent of the GOP's campaign contributions
came from corporations like Koch Industries. Meanwhile, the Nation
also reports that one of the Democratic holdouts on the bill may be
influenced by Boeing Industries, which is in her district and has
expressed concern about the cap-and-trade legislation. The Nation
also reports that one of the state's wealthiest conservative donors
funds a timber group painted as grassroots opposition. (Walkout: AP,

[Financial Times warns]
*Banks need to get ahead of climate change, or else*
Real economy cannot meet sustainability goals without help from
financial sector
Ben Caldecott
Banks are where the financial system and the real economy meet. The UN's
Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris climate change agreement
will be unattainable unless banks finance solutions to these massive
social and environmental challenges. Nor can we have efficient, fair and
resilient financial and economic systems if banks fail to manage and
reduce environment-related risks for themselves and their clients...
