In a politically divisive year, there's
been one tie that has bound most of the U.S. together. We all
live in the United States of Warming (USW! USW! USW!).
In all likelihood, the U.S. is going to have its
second-hottest year on record, trailing only 2012. Every state
is slated to have a top 10 warmest year and even at the city
level, unrelenting warmth has been the main story in
2016....Climate Central conducted an analysis of more than 1,730
weather stations across the Lower 48 that include daily
temperature data up until Dec. 15....
A paltry 2 percent are having a colder-than-normal
year. That leaves 98 percent running above normal. Not only
that, 10 percent of those weather stations are having their

is the number of record daily highs being set, and this year has
been no exception. In November, record daily highs outpaced
daily lows at a blistering 44-to-1 pace. For the year, that
ratio is 6-to-1, with more record highs than lows set in every

Wants to Get Really Depressed About Climate Change? Thanks, Adam
Ruins Everything!

In the latest trailer for TruTV's Adam
Ruins Everything, host Adam Conover talks about climate change
in the most realistic and depressing way possible. ...Conover is
joined by NYU Professor of Environmental Studies, Dale Jameson,
who breaks down the fact that we've already done so much damage
to the Earth's atmosphere that “we'd be lucky if we can hold the
warming to two degrees Celsius.” In other words, it's not a
matter of if climate change is going to happen. It's already
happening. It's just a matter of how bad things are going to
get. Damn.

The Dakota Access pipeline (DAPL) is yet
another violent variable in the equation of environmental racism
that plagues the United States, and the world—to the peril of
Indigenous and low-wealth communities of color everywhere...
The financial implications of this decision are
both far reaching and profound, and may signal the death knell
of DAPL, also referred to as the “Black Snake” by the Native
communities leading the resistance on the ground. For all of
ETP’s bravado—including the suggestion that they could start
drilling in defiance of the Army Corps decision—it may very well
be oil investors, not the courts or the federal government, who
ultimately deal the final blow and cut off the Black Snake’s
head.
