Grab Bag of Uplifting News on Global Warming</a></b></font><br>
POSTED BY DAN SHAFER · APRIL 3, 2017 12:39 PM<br>
Time for a few short-shorts on what's going on from the positive
side of the global warming crisis and Climageddon.<br>
Snow pack in the Sierra Mountains is at depths not seen in those
parts in a couple of decades. That means that millions of
Californians who've been laboring under severe drought conditions
have re-built most of their reserves, which bodes well for the
entire world since California's Central Valley is the "salad basket
of the world." Check out this article from the New York Times for
some great graphics depicting the 2017 situation.<br>
Several major U.S. corporations have signaled or outright told the
Trump Regime that it's wrong on climate change and indicated plans
to pursue climate-protecting activities in the absence of government
regulations requiring them to do so. Tech giants Google, Microsoft,
Apple and Amazon are among those companies, as are Nestle &
General Electric.<br>
In New York, a couple of neighborhoods are experimenting with
something called the TransActive Grid that could turn into one of
those viral things that has an impact far beyond its borders....<br>
...The idea among those New Yorkers is to sell to one another the
excess electricity they generate with solar panels and that they now
give away. Sort of an electric power co-op. This article on Thompson
Reuters says, "The change could herald a revolution in the way power
is produced and sold not only in New York but potentially across the
country and around the world, with roof-mounted solar panels joined
to become neighbourhood-controlled power plants." <br>

ExxonMobil defended itself in court documents Friday following
claims by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman that the
company used two sets of books in evaluating climate risk, one set
of numbers for describing the risks to investors and the other for
business decisions.<br>
Exxon also disputes Schneiderman's contention that the company has
destroyed records, including as many as seven year's worth of emails
that Tillerson generated using an anonymous account under the name
"Wayne Tracker." The hunt for the missing emails was described by an
Exxon information technology officer in documents released by the
attorney general.<br>

"We are under siege by fake information that's being put forward by
people who have a profit motive. Fake news is so harmful because
once people take on a concept it's very hard to dislodge it. The
harder part is this active disinformation campaign. I'm always
wondering if these people honestly believe the nonsense they put
forward. When they say 'It could be volcanoes' or 'the climate
always changes'… to obfuscate and to confuse people, it frankly
makes me angry."<br>
Stofan asserted that this "erosion of people's ability to scrutinize
information" is not something limited to those leaning either to the
right or left. This is a problem that we all face, and climate
change isn't going anywhere. Populations are increasing, as are the
emissions that we are pumping into the atmosphere. Whether or not
fake news sites spread misinformation, climate change is real and
threatening life on planet Earth<br>
...when it comes to science, alternative facts do not exist. Any
credible scientific topic covered should be able to be verified by
multiple sources and true beyond a doubt. It might take us a little
bit of extra time to be sure about the information that we absorb,
share, and believe, but that extra time is what will make the
difference. The important thing is, in Stofan's words, "Job one is
to keep this planet habitable. I'd hate us to lose focus on that.".<font

href="http://climatenewsnetwork.net/22392-2/">Finding when
humans first altered the planet's geology</a></b><br>
Stone Age humans changed a landscape. Then time buried the evidence.
Now researchers have found when <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2017-06/afot-emc060517.php">humans
first altered the planet's geology.</a><br>
By Tim Radford<br>
LONDON, 10 June, 2017 - Israeli researchers claim to have pinpointed
the first permanent geological change made by humankind, the moment
when humans first altered the planet's geology.<br>
They have identified a set of erosion processes made 11,500 years
ago in the<a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://arava.org/arava-research-centers/center-for-transboundary-water-management/jordan-river-dead-sea-basin-forum/">
Dead Sea Basin</a>. This would represent the first hint of what
increasingly has been called<a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://climatenewsnetwork.net/earth-at-risk-in-new-epoch-ruled-by-destructive-humans/">
the Anthropocene</a>, a geological era in which the planet's
characteristics are defined by just one species, Homo sapiens.<br>
The evidence comes from the <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://climatenewsnetwork.net/dead-sea-warns-unprecedented-drought/">Dead
Sea Drilling Project</a>, which provides a sedimentary record of
the last 220,000 years. And the scientists have found that erosion
rates in the Dead Sea Basin during the Neolithic were, they say,
dramatically at odds with the known tectonic and climatic regimes of
the period under review, less than 12,000 years ago.<br>
"Human impact on the natural environment is now endangering the
entire planet," said <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://english.tau.ac.il/profile/shmulikm">Shmuel Marco, of
the Tel Aviv University school of geosciences.</a><br>
...Right now, the region is experiencing the <a
moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://climatenewsnetwork.net/mediterranean-may-driest-900-years/">worst
drought in 900 years</a>. Climate change could deliver <a
moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://climatenewsnetwork.net/mediterranean-heat-massive-change/">even
harsher things to come</a>, according to a new study last year. <br>
So the discovery by the Tel Aviv scientists represents a possible
starting point: the story of human civilisation and human-induced
climate change had a beginning that has now been identified in the
sands of time 11 millennia ago at a depth of 457 metres under the
Dead Sea.<br>
The ending has yet to be written, but that too will be recorded,
ultimately, in geological strata. - Climate News Network<br>

to Do When You Don<font color="#000099">'</font>t Know What<font

There's so much chaos in the world right now that we have little
choice but to wake up to it. Heightened uncertainty is an excellent
opportunity for growth.<br>
By Dawa Tarchin Phillips, <br>
Suggesting here is that we're living through not just a
transformation of the way we do things but possibly a deeper
transformation of why we do them in the first place.<br>
<b>1 SERVE THE LIGHT</b><br>
To serve the light means to show up-by which I mean, to be
present-for yourself, as your best and highest self, and to show up
for others in your life as well.<br>
<b>2 BREAK THE NORM</b><br>
... be first a revolutionary in your own mind, someone who breaks
down the rigid power structures and egoic defenses within through
mindfulness and awareness training, and through love and
compassion... Bring your limiting beliefs up to the surface.<br>
<b>3 LOVE WITH ABANDON</b><br>
To love with abandon is about kindness and compassion, but it's also
about gratitude. Remind yourself right now of all the things people
have done for you in your life, from the time you were a small child
needing food, clothing, shelter, training, and education, up to
today. Think of all the people who had to show up today so that you
can be in a warm, well-lit, friendly, comfortable environment
reading this article right this minute....<br>
<b>4 OWN YOUR SHIT</b><br>
Cut through the narcissism, the hypocrisy, and the
self-indulgence; cut through the mental noise and confused
storylines in your own head that amplify ongoing drama in your life
and in the world, and finally show up wherever you are needed, or
wherever you find yourself, fully present....<br>
Own your shit means to first reveal where you do or have done things
that have caused yourself or others harm. Reveal it to your own mind
and awareness. Lay it all open. Don't walk around hiding your shit
from yourself. Second, once you reveal it and you actually see it,
allow yourself to feel the regret that naturally arises when you
realize you've hurt yourself or someone else. Third, reconnect with
the part of you that knows better, the part of you that cares, the
part of you that can understand, the part of you that is wise. And
finally, redirect your ways. Commit to a different course of
action,...<br>
<b>5 FEAR NO ONE</b><br>
...To fear no one means to not be intimidated. Not by speakers on a
stage, not by spiritual teachers with titles, not by lawyers,
doctors, congresswomen, or senators, not by presidents. Don't be
intimidated. Simple: Fear no one. You are like me, like everyone,
immersed in the process of ripening and maturing your potential. You
are ripening spiritually, you are ripening emotionally, you're
ripening intellectually; you're ripening in your capacity to lead,
and there is nobody you need to fear...<br>
<b>6 DANCE IN THE FIRE</b><br>
... We're talking about awareness of a mind that is constantly
liberating emotions and experiences. In the midst of it all, you can
realize that you're actually not trapped. You've just illustrated
through the exercise above that you can switch emotions quickly if
you give yourself permission to do so. All it takes is a shift in
your thoughts, a shift in your attitude, a shift in your focus, and
your experience changes. You're free to make that shift at any time.
The question then becomes: What will you do with that freedom? How
will you use it, and to what aim?<br>
<b>7 INVEST TRUST</b><br>
...choose to be the one who is not waiting around for others to be
predictable or the world to be unchanging. Choose to be the one that
invests trust again and again, because it's as good for you as it is
for the rest of us.<br>
<b>8 STAND ON TRUTH</b><br>
...Golden mountains are universal truths. Golden mountains don't
need you to carry them. They are there for everyone to see in plain
sight. Whenever you talk about the golden mountains people say:
"Yes, that's true, that's timeless wisdom"—not because it is your
opinion, but because it's true. You have a finely developed BS
detector inside you. That BS detector is very sophisticated and
consistent if you let it work for you. It will let you know what is
true and what is not regardless of other people's opinions. To stand
on truth means to cultivate that, to trust that, and to rely on
that. Rely on truth.<br>

"Of the people involved in global warming, I think we're on top of
the list of who would be most affected," Keogak went on. "Our way of
life, our traditions, maybe our families. Our children may not have
a future. I mean, all young people, put it that way. It's just not
