<b>Befuddled Trump Can't Figure Out How Global Warming Is A Thing If
Buffalo Is Freezing</b><br>
Story by Mary Papenfuss Dec 30, 2022<br>
<br>
Former President Donald Trump yet again on Thursday completely
dismissed global warming as a problem — because it’s been freezing
in Buffalo, New York.<br>
<br>
“What happened to global warming?” Trump asked dismissively on Truth
Social in response to a story about the frozen homes in Buffalo and
the city’s deadly blizzard conditions.<br>
<br>
Trump, as always, confused climate trends with the weather and
apparently views low temperatures in Buffalo (weather) as totally
negating decades of an increasingly warming Earth (via climate) amid
spiking carbon dioxide triggered by the use of fossil fuels. But
scientists say that deadly storm surges and other extreme weather,
like in Buffalo that has killed dozens of people, are more evidence
of damage wreaked by climate change...<br>
- -<br>
Trump also accused President Joe Biden in the interview of
perpetrating a climate change “hoax” to avoid increasing oil
production.<br>
<br>
Trump laughed during his campaign for the 2020 election that a rise
in sea levels as the polar ice caps melt will result in “more
beachfront property.”<br>

<b>REVISITING THE ENABLERS: THE FIRMS BEHIND FOSSIL FUEL FALSEHOODS</b><br>
December 30th, 2022<br>
For years, fossil fuel companies have claimed to support climate
science and policy. Many have recently pledged to hit net zero
emissions by midcentury. Yet behind the scenes, they fight those
very same policies through industry associations, shadow groups, and
lobbying – all while spending vast sums on advertising and PR
campaigns touting their climate commitments. And they don’t do it
alone. They’re aided and abetted by PR firms, ad agencies and
business consultancies like McKinsey & Company.<br>
<br>
Michael Forsythe, New York Times investigative reporter and
co-author of the book “When McKinsey Comes to Town: The Hidden
Influence of the World's Most Powerful Consulting Firm” says this
one global consultancy wields far greater influence than more
public-facing corporate giants like Amazon and Google. “McKinsey
works with almost all the companies in the world and has influence
on almost all the major companies in the world and many of the
governments.” <br>
<br>
Fossil fuel companies are McKinsey’s bread and butter. When pressed
by a group of young employees to take real action on climate and
push their clients to do the same, senior executives said they
couldn't stop working with their fossil fuel clients and remain
relevant.<br>
<br>
“No one is saying that McKinsey shouldn't work with these
companies,” says Forsythe. “What we’re saying is and what the
McKinsey employees were saying is that McKinsey should work to
reduce the carbon emissions from these companies.”...<br>
- -<br>
“ExxonMobil just made record profits because of high gas prices,”
says Henn. “And what are they doing with it? They are telling their
shareholders that they are going to increase oil and gas production,
and they're doing a $10 billion stock buyback to reward their
shareholders. In comparison ExxonMobil spent maybe upwards of about
$300 million on algae research, which over the last 10 years, so
that's about 30 million a year maybe. Yet that's the focus of all
their advertising.”<br>
Despite how much money these companies have to spend, they are still
losing the battle of public perception. 60% of Americans say that
fossil fuel companies are to blame for the climate crisis and about
50% of them want them to pay damages. <br>
<br>
Christina Arena, former VP at the global PR firm Edelman, argues
that proponents of clean energy can use this reality to help deal
with the climate crisis: “I think that opens the door for clean tech
marketers and clean energy marketers to come in with a more
compelling narrative. Tell your story better be more creative.
Capture America's hearts and minds.”<br>

that do not have their own pollution pricing systems which meets the
federal benchmark. Specifically, in 2023-24, the federal fuel charge
will continue to apply in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and
Ontario, and will come into effect as of July 1, 2023 in
Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.<br>

<b>STEFAN RAHMSTORF: 2022 SCHNEIDER AWARD WINNER</b><br>
December 16th, 2022<br>
Every year, we grant an award in memory of pioneering climate
scientist Steve Schneider, a who fiercely took on the denial machine
from the 1970s until his death in 2010. This year's recipient is
German physicist and ocean expert Dr. Stefan Rahmstorf. Dr.
Rahmstorf says we’re running toward a cliff in a fog. What can
science tell us where that cliff is – and how to avoid it?...<br>
- -<br>
He also says that we may be past the tipping point for the West
Antarctic ice sheet, “The tipping point is where the further
deterioration and actually complete loss of the ice sheet is already
programmed in by self-amplifying feedback even without further
warming.” <br>
<br>
On the other hand, Rahmstorf says, further warming itself is not
inevitable. “The science suggests that once we have reached zero CO2
emissions, the temperature will not rise further.” But he also
recognizes that getting to net zero emissions won’t be easy, “With
the politics we have now it is not possible of course, we have to be
treating this problem as a top priority like a wartime situation.”

<b>CNN Ignores Deadly Blizzard in 'Top 10 Climate Stories of 2022'</b><br>
Brad Wilmouth<br>
December 29th, 2022 <br>
In a pre-recorded segment aired on Tuesday and Wednesday, CNN
climate correspondent Bill Weir demonstrated the tendency of
journalists to ignore what contradicts a narrative they are trying
to push as he omitted the current blizzard from the list of "Top 10
Climate Stories of 2022."<br>
<br>
After CNN repeatedly called it the "blizzard of the century," Weir
ignored the superstorm and its record low temperatures even though
it was more deadly than most of the other disasters he included in
his list that promoted the global warming alarmist narrative.<br>
<br>
On Tuesday afternoon at 3:51 p.m. Eastern, fill-in host Sara Sidner
recalled "flooding, heat, and hurricanes" that "Mother Nature
unleashed" in 2022. Weir's piece not only included natural
disasters like hurricanes, heat waves, and droughts, but also a
volcanic eruption and political efforts to reduce carbon dioxide
emissions. At one point, he promoted President Joe Biden's
environmental agenda:<br>
He then misleadingly hyped Hurricane Ian by recalling that it is the
first hurricane known to have hit the Atlantic Coast the second week
of November. He did not mention that there previously have been a
couple of hurricanes which hit Florida in the first and third weeks
of November (in 1935 and in 1985) so that hurricane activity in this
month is not as unprecedented as he made it sound.<br>
<br>
At no point in his top 10 list did he mention the snow storm that
his own network had called the "blizzard of the century" earlier the
same day.<br>
- -<br>
Correspondent Polo Sandoval eventually informed viewers that the
death toll in Buffalo has surpassed that of the blizzard of 1977
(which notably led environmental alarmists to predict the coming of
a new ice age at the time).<br>

<b>The melting ice of the Arctic (2/2) | DW Documentary</b><br>
DW Documentary<br>
111,136 views Dec 30, 2022 #dwdocumentary #documentary #arctic<br>
Soon the Arctic will be ice-free in summer. While many are concerned
about the consequences for the global climate, countries like Russia
and the US, as well as China and Canada see an ice-free Arctic as an
opportunity, offering everything from new trade routes to mineral
resources and tourism.<br>
<br>
Part 1: <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://youtu.be/GystZIxWQ3o">https://youtu.be/GystZIxWQ3o</a><br>
<br>
In two episodes, this documentary reports on a region of the world
that is changing dramatically because of climate change. This change
affects the lives of the people who make their home in the Arctic,
of course. The film team experiences first-hand what it means to
live at the mercy of the forces of nature in this inhospitable
region, which makes for an adventurous and frightening journey.<br>
<br>
But the ramifications of an Arctic thaw are felt around the globe.
Climate change is progressing faster here than in the rest of the
world, and it is moving the Arctic into the focus of global
politics. Littoral states and world powers are fighting for
influence, here. At the heart of their interest: access to mineral
resources and new transport routes. Because, as the ice melts, new,
shorter shipping routes are opening up. Is a new conflict looming at
the North Pole?<br>
<br>
And how do the people in the far north experience the change in
their environment? The film team travels through the northern
reaches of the US, Canada, Greenland, Norway and Russia. The
journalists experience the wonder of nature in these regions and
meet people who have adapted over centuries to life in these cold,
inhospitable realms. Now, they face a new struggle, as global power
players swoop in.<br>
<br>
In the second part of the documentary, the film team boards a
Norwegian frigate off Spitsbergen. There, they observe NATO’s
response to the growing Russian influence in the region. This
includes observation missions and an increased presence; there is
even talk of bringing back submarines decommissioned since the end
of the Cold War. Norway's intelligence service has clearly observed
a more aggressive Russian military presence in the Arctic in recent
years. Apparently, Russia wants to make it clear that it can
dominate the Arctic.<br>
<br>
Indeed, Russia identified the Arctic as an important sphere of
influence following the end of the Cold War, especially with regard
to the Northeast Passage. Alexei Chekunkov, Russia's Minister of
Arctic Development, explains why: "The northern shipping route from
China via Siberia and Scandinavia is 40 per cent shorter than the
route via the Indian Ocean, the Suez Canal, and the Mediterranean."
Climate change, he said, represents an opportunity for Russia. But
how to get energy to where it’s needed in northern Siberia? The
"Akademik Lomonosov," a floating nuclear power plant, may be one
answer. Currently anchored in the port of Pevek, Russia's
northernmost city, it can supply energy to some 100,000 <br>
