What is the RISKIEST Region in the US as the Climate Changes?
Climate Change is increasing the frequency and severity of natural
disasters all around the world. And in the United States, more and
more people seem to be moving to the places that are projected to be
most impacted by climate change, from hazards such as flooding,
wildfire, storms, drought and extreme heat; and leaving the most
climate-resilient areas. At first glance, this seems like a bizarre
and paradoxical trend. So, for this episode of Weathered, we decided
to see if we could get to the bottom of it.

We spoke to experts and sifted through lots of data about moving
trends and shifting climate patterns to figure out what’s really
going on here and what you can do to avoid moving into harm’s way.

Weathered is a show hosted by weather expert Maiya May and produced
by Balance Media that helps explain the most common natural
disasters, what causes them, how they’re changing, and what we can
do to prepare.
Black's Beach in Torrey Pines split in two after dramatic bluff

CBS 8 San Diego
Usually, the stretch of beach from Torrey Pines State Beach to
Black's Beach is one continuous strip of sand, but late last week, a
bluff just south of the Torrey Pines Glider Port failed; the slide
was so giant it split the beaches in two.
winter nights studied 20 years ago ]
Fewer Frigid Nights
Climate Matters - January 24, 2023
KEY CONCEPTS

204 U.S. locations have seen a drop in the annual number
of freezing nights since 1970.

The average change across these 204 locations was 13 fewer
freezing nights.

Local trends since 1970 are part of a larger trend: the most rapid
warming in the U.S. has generally occurred when it’s typically
coldest—including at night and during winter.

These trends are likely to continue with additional heat-trapping
emissions. By the middle of this century, 23 states are projected
to see at least three or four fewer weeks of freezing days.

Fewer freezing days and nights may reduce cold weather hazards and
heating costs, while also negatively impacting economies and
ecosystems that depend on the cold.
[ Taking a Pass on the Gas Stove - Dave Roberts uncovers it all

Fine, we're doing gas stoves
A conversation with Sage Welch of Sunstone Strategies.
JAN 25, 2023
Earlier this month, gas stoves exploded into the news. Overnight,
everyone had an opinion and Republican Congresspeople were
threatening violence if jackbooted government thugs arrived to
confiscate their stoves...
- -
A great deal of this gas stove discourse has been lamentably stupid,
and some of it has been educational, but on all sides, there's just
been a lot of it, so I thought it was worth doing a podcast trying
to tease out the facts...
To help with that I contacted the Sage Welch of Sunstone Strategies,
a climate communications firm that's been supporting electrification
policies since 2018. Welch has spent years tracking the science
(which has been accumulating for decades), public opinion, and
regulatory action on gas stoves.
