Feb 3: Anti-war protest at John McCain campaign rally
Anti-war protest at John McCain campaign rally -- Special guests: Joe Lieberman, Chris Shays, Rob Simmons
WHEN: Sunday, February 3 -- 12 Noon
WHERE: Sacred Heart University -- University Commons -- 151 Park Avenue Fairfield
John McCain, the most pro-war candidate for President in 2008, will be holding a campaign rally on the campus of Sacred Heart University. He will be joined by pro-war cronies Joe Lieberman, Chris Shays and Rob Simmons.
McCain has been a staunch supporter of the War on Iraq, and is an advocate of going to war with Iran.
Details for parking and an assembly area will follow as quickly as we can verify them. Anti-war activists need to come out in force and let John McCain know that war is not the answer.
Campaign signs and stickers for political candidates ARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR THIS DEMONSTRATION. We want our focus on our opposition to the war and McCain's support of a failed policy. This rally is about our opposition to the war, and all the issues that are affected by the war. Our economy is in a recession because of all the money being wasted in Iraq coupled with tax cuts for those who least need them. Please bring lots of signs and noisemakers!!!

Feb 6: Protest Against Granting the Danbury Police 287-G Access
On Wednesday February 6th the Danbury city council is set to approve 287-G, a federal program, coordinating with the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) that would give local police unprecedented new powers to to detain immigrants. The Mayor of Danbury and the police refuse to disclose the full scope of this program yet, but from what they've already told the press, this much is clear:
287(g) authorizes the Danbury police to stop and interrogate any city resident who they suspect of being undocumented.
They could access ICE's national database and determine if ICE is looking for the person in question.
They could arrest that person, impound their property, fingerprint and photograph them, and hand them over to ICE.
It would give them the authority to conduct raids against people in their homes and workplaces - all they would need is a warrant and ICE authorization.
Join in Solidarity with Immigrant Families, Workers, Brothers and Sisters as Statewide Coalitions speak out and protest in opposition to the proposed 287g ICE ACCESS program in Danbury, which will face its' final vote in Danbury on FEBRUARY 6TH 2008!
Where: Danbury City Hall, Deer Hill Avenue, Danbury CT.
When : 2/6/2008 6:30 pm
This is a legal, and peaceful demonstration. Legal Observers will be present, and a parade permit will be obtained prior to the date of protest.
The protest is organized by Greater Danbury Partnership for Unity For more info Call : (English) Jean Hislop, 203-512-3452.
