Subject: [usgp-nc] !IMPORTANT - TROUBLE WITH YAHOO ADDRESSES - PLEASE
FORWARD TO ALL STATE LISTS, COMMITTEE AND CAUCUS LISTS
To: "natlcomvotes at green.gpus.org" <natlcomvotes at green.gpus.org>

Most of the people affected won't receive this from either of these lists,
so I am asking all delegates to forward this to your state and caucus lists,
and GPUS committee lists.

During the past few days, a few people who use Yahoo as their email began
reporting problems with the GPUS national committee lists, sometimes not
getting mail, or receiving message sporadically. Today, all or most Yahoo
addresses on both natlcomvotes and natlcomaffairs were unsubscribed. The
list admin, Cameron Spitzer and I have been looking into this all day.
While the exact cause isn't yet known, we hope to get to the bottom of it
tomorrow. What we do know is that Yahoo seems to have blocked all messages
coming from our "pair" server (lists on another server don't seem to have
been affected), which eventually caused all Yahoo addresses automatically to
be unsubscribed. One suggestion is that spam went out from the server, not
necessarily from us, and Yahoo blocked everything. However, the problem
appears to affect more than just us, according to Yahoo's help site.

PLEASE LET YAHOO-USING FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES KNOW THAT WE ARE WORKING ON
THE PROBLEM AND HOPE TO GET FOLKS RE-SUBSCRIBED BY
THE END OF THE DAY TOMORROW. I WILL ALSO BE GOING THROUGH THE DELEGATE
DIRECTORY AND SENDING NOTICES TO ALL YAHOO USERS. I AM ALSO COLLECTING A
LIST OF THOSE WHO HAVE CONTACTED ME OR THE LIST ADMIN AND HOPE TO SEND THE
ADMIN A LIST OF ADDRESSES TO RE-SUBSCRIBE LATER TOMORROW. WE HOPE THAT
SIMPLY RE-SUBSCRIBING THESE ADDRESSES IS ALL THAT'S NEEDED. IF IT ISN'T,
FOLKS WILL BE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO FIND A NEW EMAIL SERVICE.

*THOSE WHO HAVE QUESTIONS OR WANT TO CHANGE TO A NEW ADDRESS ARE ASKED TO
CONTACT ME, FOR NOW, AT - secretary at gp.org

*******
ONE PIECE OF ADVICE THAT MAY BE HELPFUL: People need to check their spam
folders and teach the system by removing it from that folder with the
appropriate button. Another method is to place the email address in the
address book of their Yahoo account online/

We have had ongoing problems with Comcast and Juno, but Yahoo has been
reliable until now. Hopefully, this is a one-time, brief problem.

HOWEVER, HERE IS AN IMPORTANT RECOMMENDATION FROM THE LIST ADMIN - PLEASE
NOTE, WE CAN'T FIX EVERYTHING EVERY TIME ONE OF THESE SERVICES DECIDES TO
ARBITRARILY START BLOCKING OUR MESSAGES:
Here's my unsolicited opinion, free email services through mega
corporate entities is exactly what Greens should resist. Yahoo, Comcast,
Gmail, Juno and all other services like them ... are unmitigated
rip-offs,... My advice ... support your local ISP and get a real email
address.

THERE ARE "REAL" EMAIL SERVICES, SOME GOOD LOCAL PROVIDERS. IF YOU WANT
SOME SUGGESTIONS, LET ME KNOW AND WE WILLTRACK SOME DOWN.

Holly Hart
Secretary, GPUS
