{news} vote results: how Green is your town?

>From the results posted on the SOTS website, I've calculated the percent of the vote cast in each town for the Green Congressional candidate. (For the six towns that are divided between districts, I've figured the overall percent.) Plain text is below; an Excel spreadsheet is attached.

Of course there are more variables involved than when we have a statewide race such as President or Governor: in each district you have different incumbents, different challengers, and different numbers of candidates dividing the vote. As discussed earlier, we suffered in the 4th and 5th Districts because they were 4-way races.

However, there is some consistency with past elections. New London, Middletown, New Haven, and Chaplin are near the top of the list, voting over 3% Green. Although Canaan and Cornwall didn't make the top ten as they usually do, they still did well among 5th District towns. Based on past voting, I would have expected Mansfield and Windham to do better; this year they fell out of the top ten down to #32 and #45 respectively.

Lebanon, Scott Deshefy's hometown, tops the list as the only town where we broke 4%. Hartford, Steve Fournier's hometown, also did much better than usual, ranking #3 overall and #1 among 1st District towns. Canton, Harold Burbank's hometown, ranked #2 among 5th District towns. In these cases, I think we got a boost from the candidate being well known.

Bridgeport dropped conspicuously to 2nd from the bottom of the list, which MIGHT be explained by massive numbers of new voters coming out for Obama and voting straight Democratic. But what looks suspicious is Cromwell, at the very bottom of the list, far below all the other 1st District towns. The SOTS reported only 11 votes there for Steve, and what makes it more suspicious, 0 votes on the Working Families line for John Larson. This should be investigated--watch for results of the election audit being completed this week.
