So we aren't the only people who ask users on iOS devices to manually configure Wi-Fi. Check out https://sony-paa-pa-en-web--paa.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/94441/~/how-to-use-the-wi-fi-direct-feature-on-the-tv-with-an-iphone-mobile-device.

In their case they actually had the extra step of having to specify a password. At least we won't have to do that.
