President Barack Obama made a brief statement in the Rose Garden on

the link with Paris temperature goals aside, the pact largely turned
out as expected. It finalised a carbon offsetting scheme that
aimed to neutralise the sector’s emissions growth from 2020. With
participation voluntary at first, it won’t quite meet that goal, but
opt-ins

this was a visionary step forward, or a dangerous distraction from
airlines’ failure to cut their own carbon footprint. Mention of the

*Europe must prepare for extreme weather
<http://climatenewsnetwork.net/europe-prepare-extreme-weather/>*
Cities and towns across Europe are warned to adapt to the battering
they face from intense storms as extreme weather events become more
frequent....LONDON, 7 October, 2016 − Extreme weather, high winds
and flooding are causing increasing disruption and damage in
European cities, and local authorities and scientists are being
warned that they need to act together to lessen the
impact....Because storms do not respect country borders, regional
long-term weather forecasting needs to be developed so that early
warnings can be given for all areas that may be in the path of
extreme weather, says the European Commission’s Directorate-General
for Climate Action (DG CLIMA).

Exxon Mobil is failing to safeguard Massachusetts communities
against pollution relating to climate change impacts, the suit says.
It follows up on revelations that the oil giant covered up climate
risks of fossil fuels....The Conservation Law Foundation has sued
Exxon Mobil Corp. in the United States District Court of Boston,
filing what it described as the first-ever US legal action aimed at
holding the oil giant accountable for its*climate change* cover-up.
...The suit follows revelations last year that Exxon executives were
aware of the climate risks associated with fossil fuels as early as
1977, but funded research to cover up those findings..I think this
case should send a clear signal that there are enormous consequences
and potential liability if they fail to take climate change into
account when they're operating, designing or building facilities. ..

Actively Open-Minded Thinking About*Climate*Change

In a new study, Kahan and his colleagues assess the relationship
between accepting the evidence for man-made*global warming*with a
measure for actively open-minded thinking and attitudes
