    Kaine Compares Fighting*Global Warming*to a Twelve-Step Program
    <http://www.mrctv.org/blog/kaine-compares-fighting-global-warming-twelve-step-program>

While speaking at Florida International University, Democratic vice
presidential candidate Tim Kaine compared fighting*global warming*to
participating in a twelve-step program and accused Republican
presidential candidate Donald Trump and vicepresidential candidate
Mike Pence of "turning their back on science." *...Kaine compared
defeating climate change to a twelve-step program. According to
Kaine, unless you admit climate change is a problem, you are not
going to break the cycle and defeat it:... Step one: admit that you
have a problem. If you can*'*t get to step one, you*'*re not going
to get to step twelve. You aren*'*t even going to get to step two.
You gotta admit you have a problem. And we*'*ve got a problem with
climate change....But Donald Trump and Mike Pence… Trump says
climate change is a hoax created by the Chinese. That is a direct
quote. Mike Pence says climate change is a myth. That is a direct
quote. They won*'*t even admit there*'*s a problem, so you know
they*'*re not going to solve the problem.*

*The Climate Questions the Next President Should Answer
<http://www.climatecentral.org/news/the-climate-questions-the-next-president-should-answer-20804>*

Katharine Hayhoe, climate modeler at Texas Tech University: I
wouldn't waste any time asking them what they think about the
science — scientists are already very clear on the science, and have
been for decades. I would ask them the question that is most
appropriate to their role as politicians: what are they going to do
    to fix this problem?

Species may be listed as threatened based on*climate
    change*projections, court says

Federal authorities may list a species as "threatened" based
on*climate*models that show habitat loss in the coming decades, an
appeals court decided Monday....A lawyer for an environmental group
that sought the listing said the 9th Circuit decision was
particularly significant because it allowed for protection of a
species based on models of conditions at the end of the
century...."This legal victory is likely to have major implications
for many other climate-threatened species," said Kristen Monsell, a
staff attorney for the Center for Biological Diversity, which sought
the listing....The state and the oil and gas industry opposed the
listing because it could interfere with offshore drilling....Before
issuing a permit to drill, the federal government would have to
determine whether the activity would affect the bearded seal. If so,
the company's exploration could be restricted... lawyer for the
state of Alaska said the ruling may be appealed...."If this opinion
stands, the National Marine Fisheries Service would list a species
that is abundant and in good health based on the claim that climate
change will impact habitat over the next 100 years and may cause
harm," said Brad Meyen, senior assistant attorney general for
Alaska....A lawyer for the oil and gas industry could not be reached
    for comment.

*(opinion) Electric car revolution may drive 'investor death spiral' for
oil industry
<http://reneweconomy.com.au/2016/electric-car-revolution-may-drive-investor-death-spiral-for-oil-industry-91818>*

Joe Romm - Advanced batteries could "tip the oil market from growth
to contraction earlier than anticipated," concludes the credit
rating agency Fitch in a new study. Bloomberg New Energy Finance
(BNEF) has already told investors to expect the 'big crash' in oil
by 2028 — and as early as 2023....Fitch Ratings agency warns that if
recent technology trends continue, we may see an "investor death
spiral" as first the smart money — and then everyone else's — sell
off oil company assets (bonds and stocks). That would in turn
increase the industry's costs for both debt and equity — while oil
prices would be stuck at low levels as the world hits peak demand.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) would like to remind you that lots of
people move to Florida.....on Monday said he doesn't think people
should worry about finding solutions to*climate change*― because
historically, "civilization thrives" in warmer temperatures.....We
will adapt," Johnson told Wisconsin radio station WHBY. "How many
people are moving up toward the Antarctica, or the Arctic? Most
people move down to Texas or Florida, where it's a little bit
warmer."....when asked about his claim that sunspots cause climate
change...."I've never denied climate change. It has always changed,
always will," he said. "The sun has the primary effect on weather
and climate on planet Earth, so I'm just not a climate change
alarmist."...."Mankind has actually flourished in warmer
temperatures," he continued. "I just think the question always is
what is the cost versus the benefit of anything we do to try and
clean up our environment ... I'm highly concerned about the climate
alarmists that are going to spend a lot of money and have no impact
whatsoever on the climate but have a great deal of harm on our
    economy."
