    Change*

John Morales is not afraid to discuss*climate change*and its present
and future impacts with viewers, a rare quality among TV
weathercasters..... He recently took to Twitter to express his
disappointment with the media and government for failing to connect
the king tides, the highest tides of the year, to sea-level rise,
which poses a long-term threat to the region...."Others with a
bullhorn in South Florida should have the courage to discuss
#sealevelrise on air & online like I’ve been for years," he
concluded. "Sigh."...According to a study from George Mason
University, most TV weathercasters have now come to understand the
climate is changing primarily as a result of human
activity....However, many broadcast meteorologists still say they
experience significant barriers in reporting on climate change,
including a lack of time to prepare and air stories, lack of access
to high-quality content that can be rapidly used in their
broadcasts, and a lack of access to climate scientists for advice
    and interviews.

Ice reflects a lot of the sun's energy back up toward space, while
open water absorbs more of that heat. So the less ice and the more
water, the more the planet warms.

*Tamino: Japanese report Antarctic CO2 levels above 400 ppmv (part per
million by volume) <https://tamino.wordpress.com/2016/10/26/400/>*

"We need to reduce how fast it’s rising, and we need to do it now."
That of course raises the question, just how fast is it rising? I’m
not talking about the instantaneous rate, which can vary for a lot
of reasons. I’m referring to the persistent rate, apart from
short-term fluctuations (for whatever reason)...the Japanese have
announced the CO2 level at their Antarctic station (Syowa) exceeded
400 ppmv (part per million by volume) this year....Which bodes ill,
not for the planet, but for the life that inhabits it. In
particular, us. Making light of it is deplorable....All in all, the
evidence suggests that the present long-term rate of CO2 increase is
right around 2.25 ppmv/yr. Alas, there’s no sign of any slowdown in
atmospheric CO2 growth; quite the contrary, it’s continuing to
accelerate. Although there are brief episodes of faster and slower
growth, the best estimate — so far — is near-constant
acceleration....Many nations claim that they have reduced their CO2
emissions rate. But there’s absolutely no evidence that it has had
any impact on planet-wide CO2 increase. Not even a little bit.
There’s not even any sign we’ve slowed down the
acceleration....Which bodes ill, not for the planet, but for the
life that inhabits it. In particular, us. Making light of it is
    deplorable.

Elevated CO2 Levels Directly Affect Human Cognition,

Progress reports: "In a landmark public health finding, a new study
from the Harvard School of Public Health
<http://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/15-10037/> finds that carbon dioxide (CO2)
has a direct and negative impact on human cognition and
decision-making. These impacts have been observed at CO2 levels that
most Americans — and their children — are routinely exposed to today
inside classrooms, offices, homes, planes, and cars."....That study
found "statistically significant and meaningful reductions in
decision-making performance" in test subjects as CO2 levels rose
from a baseline of 600 parts per million (ppm) to 1000 ppm and 2500
ppm..... on average, a typical participant’s cognitive scores
dropped 21 percent with a 400 ppm increase in CO2.....We do not know
the threshold at which CO2 levels begin to measurably impact human
cognition...That study found "statistically significant and
meaningful reductions in decision-making performance" in test
subjects as CO2 levels rose from a baseline of 600 parts per million
(ppm) to 1000 ppm and 2500 ppm.
