Obama Warns of "Mass Migrations" If*Climate Change*Is Not Confronted

President Obama used his final address to the U.N. General Assembly
yesterday to warn that*climate change*would worsen the kind of
unrest and inequality that has spurred a global refugee crisis.

*Benicians for a Safe and Healthy Community Shutdown Coal Trains
<http://safebenicia.org/>*
If This Town Can #StopOilTrains -- Any Town Can
<http://www.stand.earth/blog/if-town-can-stopoiltrains-any-town-can>

Benicia, California City Council voted to unanimously deny Valero's
proposed oil trains project. If built, 100-car trains carrying
millions of gallons of toxic, explosive crude oil would have rolled
through dozens of California communities every day en route to
Valero's refinery - endangering the 5.5 million Californians who
live within a mile of the tracks...Communities everywhere can say no
to dangerous oil trains projects: The Surface Transportation Board's
    decision
    <http://www.ci.benicia.ca.us/vertical/sites/%7BF991A639-AAED-4E1A-9735-86EA195E2C8D%7D/uploads/STB_Decision_September_20_2016.pdf>
has impacts far beyond the borders of Benicia, or even California.
It means that refinery communities across the US considering whether
or not to grant oil train permits to Big Oil will have the freedom
to say NO. For decision makers sitting on the fence, this means no
more hiding behind federal pre-emption. You're either for oil trains
in your community, or you're against them.

*Fossil Fuel Risk Bonds: Making Polluters Pay for the Climate Crisis
<http://sustainable-economy.org/fossil-fuel-risk-bonds-making-polluters-pay-for-the-climate-crisis/>*

For a copy of Fossil Fuel Risk Bonds: Safeguarding public finance
from product life cycle risks of oil, gas, and coal,
    <http://sustainable-economy.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Fossil-Fuel-Risk-Bonds-May-25.pdf>...fossil
fuel companies are passing on huge financial risks to taxpayers and
politicians are simply turning their backs on the problem instead of
holding those companies accountable. At each stage of the fossil
fuel product life cycle, taxpayers are increasingly burdened with a
litany of costs such as those associated with fracking-induced
earthquake swarms, pipeline explosions, abandoned infrastructure,
water pollution and, of course, the costs of climate change. Fossil
fuel risk bond programs – a policy innovation proposed by Center for
Sustainable Economy – can help reverse this glaring inequity by
shifting the economic risk back where it belongs: on the polluters.

Paris*Climate*Deal Passes Milestone as 20 More Nations Sign On

The legally binding portion of the Paris accord does little more
than require governments to continue to convene at high-profile
global*climate*summit meetings, make public pledges to tackle*global
warming*at home and submit those plans to be published*...*

Holding Clinton's Feet to the Fire On*Climate*

She staked out seemingly aggressive positions on*climate change*,
but often left wiggle room in her language, making her pledges far
    from assured.

*Scientists may have solved a key riddle about Antarctica — and you're
not going to like the answer
<https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2016/09/20/scientists-may-have-just-solved-a-riddle-about-antarctica-and-youre-not-going-to-like-the-answer/>***

$)

      — for it suggests that large parts of East Antarctica can indeed
collapse, and moreover, can do so in conditions not too dissimilar
from those we're creating today with all of our greenhouse gas
emissions.....This is another piece of a jigsaw puzzle that the
community is rapidly putting together, and which appears to show
that the ice sheets are more sensitive to warming than we had hoped.
If humans continue to warm the climate, we are likely to commit to
large and perhaps rapid sea-level rise that could be very costly. No
one piece of the puzzle shows this, but as they fit together, the
picture is becoming clearer. Windblown Pliocene diatoms and East

*Kill Climate Deniers: the provocative play that sneakily infiltrated
Australia's Parliament House*
<https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2016/sep/21/kill-climate-deniers-provocative-play-slyly-infiltrates-australias-parliament-house>

Kill Climate Deniers by David Finnigan has been a radio play, a
book, a short film and a live show....The album has just been
    released
    <https://clananalogue.bandcamp.com/album/kill-climate-deniers>on the
seminal electronic label Clan Analogue and last week Finnigan
unveileda video for the track Bolted <https://youtu.be/809XLvFtgu4>.
A remix of the same song by James Atkin of British band EMF (best
known for 1991 track Unbelievable) is due for release as well. This
week Ingall and Finnigan launch the album in Canberra and
    atMelbourne fringe festival
    <https://melbournefringe.com.au/program?event/kill_climate_deniers/6d9c5044-7669-4af7-b61e-b2afee5cec4a/>....But
why vintage rave? It's an era thing, says Finnigan. "It's been 28
years since [Nasa scientist] James Hansen testified to the US
Congress that climate change had commenced. Around that time Chicago
house and Detroit techno arrived in the UK with all the cheap
ecstasy and kicked off the second summer of love."
