*Climate change a character in Discovery's 'Deadliest Catch'
Climate change is one of the main characters in the new season of
"Deadliest Catch," with the crab fishermen in one of Discovery's
most enduring and popular shows forced to deal with a sudden warming
of the Bering Sea that chases their prey into deeper, more dangerous
water...
That leads the adventure series into its own uncharted waters. The
show's 13th season debuts Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET...
"It's a big risk for us to discuss climate change because so many
people can think that it's a political issue when really it isn't,
particularly in the context of the fishing fleet," said R. Decker
Watson, Jr., one of the show's executive producers...
The waters off Alaska that provide the livelihood for the show's
real-life stars warmed by a dramatic 4 degrees in one year. The cold
water-loving crab is depleted in the traditional fishing areas, so
some of the boats strike out for new territory that is more
dangerous because of fiercer storms and is further from rescue
workers if something goes wrong, he said...
In fact, the new season documents one vessel lost at sea. It was not
one of the crews regularly featured in the series, but all of the
regulars knew who was involved, he said.

the earth is warming and humans are at fault, while the Obama
administration prioritized fighting its effects.

Permafrost, the layer of permanently frozen ground that lies just
beneath the Earth's surface in the polar regions, has been found to
be more sensitive to the effects of global warming than climatology
had recognised...
In a study published in Nature Climate Change journal, scientists
say they expect the warming to thaw about 20% more permafrost than
previously thought, potentially releasing significant amounts of
greenhouse gases into the Earth's atmosphere...
The study, conducted by climate change experts from the universities
of Leeds and Exeter and the Met Office, all in the UK, and the
universities of Stockholm and Oslo, suggests that nearly four
million square kilometres of frozen soil – an area larger than India
– could be lost for every additional degree of global warming the
planet experiences...

It is critical that anyone who believes the scientific evidence that
is out there for all to see speaks out to their legislators and
takes action to mitigate climate change. Anyone who still believes
that Climate Change is a hoax - and the majority of us don't - needs
to do some very easy research online. Here is a good link for
starters: https://climate.nasa.gov/evidence...
Even those who do follow what is happening to this planet may not
know what is happening behind the scenes in Washington. According to
an article written by an Arctic research scientist printed in The
Guardian on March 28, this administration has been deleting data
sets, webpages and policies about the Arctic and other scientific
data on government websites ever since Inauguration Day...

*Atmospheric CO2 levels accelerate upwards, smashing records

The amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere continues to
accelerate upwards despite global efforts
The last two years had "unprecedented" increases
Canadian CO2 extraction is playing an oversized role
The primary driver of global warming, disruptive climate changes and
ocean acidification is the ever-increasing amount of carbon dioxide
in our atmosphere.
Despite decades of global efforts towards climate policies, clean
energy and efficiency, CO2 levels continue to rise and are actually
accelerating upwards. For those of us hoping for signs of climate
progress, this most critical and basic climate data is bitter news
indeed. It shows humanity racing ever more rapidly into a full-blown
crisis for both our climate and our oceans.
That's the story told by the newest CO2 data released by the United
States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

/**/In the Spokane, Washington Spokesman-Review,
"Democracy Now" host Amy Goodman observes: "The Pentagon knows it. The
world’s largest insurers know it. Now, governments may be overthrown
because of it. It is climate change, and it is real. According to the
U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, last month was
the hottest March on record for the United States since 1895, when
records were first kept, with average temperatures of 8.6 degrees
above average. More than 15,000 March high-temperature records were
broken nationally. Drought, wildfires, tornadoes and other extreme
weather events are already plaguing the country."
