Warmer temperatures mean more precipitation falls as rain than snow,

Models project that climate change will increase the intensity,
duration and frequency of atmospheric rivers impacting California..

25 Smears, Hoaxes, Grifts and Whoppers on*Climate*and the
    Environment in the Obama Era

But before we turn the page on this administration let's take a look
back at the tall tales, regrettable pronouncements, farces and scams
on*climate*and the environment during the Obama years.
Anti-regulatory zealots led the pack, but President Obama ...
    20) April 2014: A disaster in Flint

The struggling city of Flint switches its water source. Reports of
discolored water, foul smell and taste, and high bacteria and lead
levels go ignored for more than a year. The local, state and federal
governments declare a state of emergency nineteen months later.

1)*January 2009: The most transparent administration? Not quite.*
A day after his inauguration, President Obama signed a
memorandum promising: “the most transparent administration in
        history.”
By May 2016, a different verdict came in. Washington Post media
columnist Margaret Sullivan called it “one of the most
secretive.” In August 2015, 52 journalism organizations,
including the Society of Environmental Journalists, sent an
appeal to the White House, asking for an end to restrictions on
        government employees’ contact with reporters....
        ...
...21) *February 2015: An exposed Willie*
Documents obtained by Greenpeace and the Climate Investigations
Center show climate researcher Willie Soon took more than a
million dollars in funding from fossil fuel interests. He
promised "deliverables" to his benefactors, and generated
studies that cast doubt on human-caused climate change.

        22) *February 2015: Inhofe’s (cold) curveball*
Senator and alpha-male among deniers Jim Inhofe throws a
snowball at the Senate President’s podium, forever proving
        climate change is a hoax.

        23) *April 2015: Pilgrimage gets no press*
Climate deniers stage a pilgrimage to Rome to “educate” Pope
Francis on his “unholy alliance with the UN’s climate agenda”
and to suggest that Jesus would have served the poor by burning
more coal. They are not granted an audience. Their press
conference didn’t really get one, either.

        24) *September 2015: Exxon ignores itself*
Investigations by InsideClimate News and The Los Angeles Times
reveal that Exxon’s scientists had confirmed the dangers of
climate change decades ago, while the company took virtually no
action to curb it and continued to fund climate-denying
        scientists and groups.

Obama's Legacy: Assessing*Climate*Policies on the American West
    <http://www.newsweek.com/obama-legacy-assessing-climate-policies-american-west-539570>

Newsweek -‎4 hours ago‎

Eight years later, a new president-elect has dismissed*climate
change*as a hoax, promised to revive coal and other extractive
    industries, and sworn to cut—or gut—the U.S....
In his 17-minute speech, which was entirely about energy, Obama did
not use the term “climate change” once, signaling an
administration-wide retreat that continued for many months.
Congressional Republicans, some of whom deny that climate change is
a threat and others who reject attempts to deal with it as
economically risky, kept attacking. Meanwhile, activists grew
    impatient...
In his final years in office, Obama has produced a powerful National
Climate Change Assessment, preserved vast stretches of land as
national monuments, won court battles over its clean car rules and
the EPA’s right to regulate carbon pollution from power plants,
drafted regulations to slash greenhouse gases, and negotiated major
bilateral treaties with China, India and Brazil, as well as the
historic Paris Climate Agreement with nearly every nation on the
planet. What had started slowly was picking up steam...
Obama was slow to apply his climate change principles to fossil
fuels beneath federal land. Throughout his administration, the
Interior Department continued to lease federal lands for oil and gas
development and fought in court against environmentalists’ “keep it
    in the ground” campaign.
.But Earthjustice attorney Ted Zukoski sees a deep hypocrisy in the
decision. “There is a conflict between this administration’s soaring
and bold rhetoric on the need to address climate change and its
failure to keep fossil fuels in the ground,” he says. “Billions of
tons of federal coal were leased on Obama’s watch.”
...And even with a president and Congress unwilling to tackle tough
questions on energy and the climate, states will remain largely
responsible for their own energy choices. Even with big utilities
fighting hard against solar, low renewable energy prices and state
mandates will make the clean energy revolution hard to
    stop....http://www.newsweek.com/obama-legacy-assessing-climate-policies-american-west-539570

*Earth on the edge: Record breaking 2016 was close to 1.5°C warming

2016 confirmed as the warmest year on record, warmer than 2015
        by close to 0.2°C
Global temperatures reached a peak in February 2016 around 1.5°C
higher than at the start of the Industrial Revolution
Extreme conditions impacting several regions across the Earth
The first global analysis of the whole of 2016 has confirmed
last year as the warmest on record and saw the planet near a
1.5°C warming, according to the Copernicus Climate Change
        Service (C3S).

The latest figures from C3S, part of the EU’s Copernicus earth
observation programme, show that 2016’s global temperature
exceeded 14.8°C, and was around 1.3°C higher than typical for
the middle years of the 18th century. 2016 was close to 0.2°C
warmer than 2015, which was previously the warmest year on record.

Countries agreed in Paris in 2015 to holding the increase in the
global average temperature to well below 2 °C above
pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the
temperature increase to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels,
recognizing that this would significantly reduce the risks and
        impacts of climate change.

*This Day in Climate History January 9, 1989
<http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=35346> - from D.R. Tucker*

January 9, 1989: In a letter to House Speaker Jim Wright and Vice
President George H. W. Bush, President Ronald Reagan writes:
"Because changes in the earth’s natural systems can have tremendous
economic and social effects, global climate change is becoming a
    critical concern."
(Apparently, Reagan's reference to the "critical concern" of climate
change has never been acknowledged by right-wing media entities such
    as the Fox News Channel.)
