By Irina Slav - Apr 24, 2022
Big Oil executives are reportedly dumping tens of millions of dollars
worth of company shares.
Some speculate that an oil price decline may be on the horizon.
"Historically, oil executives are really good at getting maximum value
from selling stock at the right time.”

/*10 recent climate policies that could make a difference*
Stories from the past six months that show what local and national
policy change can look like
By Washington Post Staff
April 21, 2022
The most recent IPCC report makes it clear: There is no one silver
bullet that can address global warming. Instead, nations, businesses,
communities and individuals all have a role to play in helping to create
a safer and more sustainable future. But without action from the world’s
wealthiest countries, the nations and people who are least at fault for
fueling climate change will be the ones who suffer the most, the
scientists behind the report warn./

*Climate on Steroids in the Arctic, Blue Ocean Event 2023*
Feb 10, 2022
Climate Alert
It has long be debated, estimated, projected when the Arctic Ocean
becomes essentially ice free, in terms of the so called Blue Ocean
definition – typically defined as less than 1 million square kilometers
of ice, or less than 10% of the basin.

YALE: Relentless high pressure and cloud-free skies have allowed the
Arctic Ocean’s sea ice to plummet to its lowest mid-July extent on
record. The persistent pattern sets the stage for what could be
unprecedented losses by September – a long-feared next step in the A

*Twitter bans climate change propaganda ads as deniers target platforms*
The social media company says ads can’t contradict “scientific
consensus” on the environmental crisis
By Naomi Nix  - - April 22, 2022
- -
Under the new policy, advertisements that contradict the “scientific
consensus” on climate change will be prohibited along with other types
of banned-ads such as campaigns that contain violence, profanity or
personal attacks. Twitter will be relying on reports from the
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a unit within the United
Nations, to inform its decisions about which advertisements break its
rules, according to the company.

“We believe that climate denialism shouldn’t be monetized on Twitter,
and that misrepresentative ads shouldn’t detract from important
conversations about the climate crisis,” the company said in a blog
post. “We recognize that misleading information about climate change can
undermine efforts to protect the planet.”

Twitter’s new strategy to fight climate lies: Give users accurate
information first

Twitter’s Friday announcement — coinciding with Earth Day — is part of a
larger trend by social media companies to address criticism from
activists that they are doing too little to combat climate change
disinformation campaigns from spreading rapidly on their massive
networks on their sprawling networks. In recent years, tech companies
have been introducing new labels and information hubs to elevate
accurate information about the environment while taking steps to limit
the spread of falsehoods...

Sea level rise is a problem that is garnishing increasing attention
among both scientists and the media. And as climate change continues to
warm the earth, the current rate of 1.4 inches per decade is projected
to increase, with NOAA predicting another foot of sea-level rise along
US coastlines by 2050.

The most consequential tipping point, when it comes to sea-level rise,
is Thwaites Glacier, also known as the Doomsday glacier, located in West
Antarctica. When this massive ice sheet melts, the earth’s seas are
predicted to rise by at least two feet. But perhaps the greater concern
is what will happen to the surrounding ice once Thwaites is no longer
there to stabilize the region around it. Many scientists predict that,
were this system to completely collapse, we would actually see around 6
feet of sea-level rise – a truly catastrophic scenario.

In this episode, we explore just how likely this dire outcome is, take a
look at how America’s most at-risk city, Miami, is already experiencing
the effects today, and what all of this has to do with gentrification.

Weathered is a show hosted by weather expert Maiya May and produced by
Balance Media that helps explain the most common natural disasters, what
causes them, how they’re changing, and what we can do to prepare.

Just Have a Think
Plastic-eating enzymes were discovered in nature several years ago and
scientists having been developing them ever since. A big challenge
though, was that they could only make use of half of the most common
polymer, PET. Now, a newly discovered enzyme allows them to break down
the other half of the polymer into a chemical that can be widely used in
nutrition and medicine.

Reviewing former ABC News correspondent Bob Zelnick's book "Gore: A
Political Life" (which was published by the right-wing outfit Regnery),
the New York Times' Richard L. Berke notes that the book does a hatchet
job on the Vice President's climate advocacy:

"For example, while some environmentalists describe Gore's book 'Earth
in the Balance' as an impressive work that incorporates his knowledge of
global warming and other issues, Zelnick dismisses it as 'pathetically
one-dimensional in its view of Western civilization, shabby in its
ignorance of economics, simplistic in its approach to problem solving.'"
