On*Climate Change*, Many Millennial Voters Think Clinton and Trump
    Are the Same

*Young voters are one of the more unpredictable factors in the 2016
election*, because they’re more likely than other age groups to support
Sanders and less likely to vote in general. Democrats run the risk of
losing Sanders holdouts to a third-party candidate. Nearly seven out of
10 Sanders supporters believe there’s no daylight between Trump and
Clinton on the issues they care about... young voters don’t recognize
how different she is from Trump. *Forty-four percent say there’s no
distinction between the two candidates on transitioning away from fossil
fuels, and 43 percent say there’s no distinction on protecting air and
wate**r*....According to the poll, 21 percent of millennials are Bernie
Sanders supporters who are so disillusioned with Clinton that they
wouldn’t plan to vote for her in a general election if there are
third-party candidates, ....That is alarming news for Clinton. But the
numbers could change. NextGen’s findings suggest that if Democrats
emphasize climate change and clean energy, they could make progress in
winning over this demographic.... Clinton isn’t interested in focusing
much more on this issue, beyond the usual applause lines. She mentioned
in passing how clean energy will lead to job creation, but she didn’t
dwell on it.

"As*climate-change*effects grow more pronounced, there can be little
doubt that an industry that produces 68 percent of human*greenhouse
gas*emissions will find itself under increasing pressure," Krane wrote.
"The risks to the industry correlate withwith progress on climate goals.
Unless a technological breakthrough can restrict carbon releases, the
*fortunes of the fossil fuel industry and the stability of Earth's
climate will be locked in a zero-sum game*. Climate's gain is the
industry's loss and vice versa."
*....**There are four main categories of climate risk for the fossil
fuel industry...:
*Policy risk:* Government policies, regulations and pledges that reduce
carbon emissions or policies that support competing technology.
*Demand risk*: Decline in global fossil fuel demand due to climate and
other factors.
*Divestment risk:* Shareholder or grassroots activism that seeks to
influence producer companies (and possibly countries) through financial
or reputational means, or investor avoidance of fossil fuel shares.
*Competition risk:* Rivalry for market share among producers seeking to
monetize reserves before they are rendered unburnable; competition
between fossil and noncarbon sources of energy.
....."the greatest risk of all" is failure. "Businesses may face
existential threats from climate action, but these are dwarfed by a far
greater risk—the possibility that climate actions may fail."*

WASHINGTON - During the 2012 race for president, the issue of*climate
change*was nearly invisible. President Obama and his Republican
opponent, Mitt Romney, almost never spoke about it, and it did not come
up during their debates..Mrs. Clinton regularly highlights her plan to
combat global warming, and her husband, former President Bill Clinton,
praised her at the Democratic National Convention last week for putting
it at “the center” of her foreign policy. .....A Gallup poll in March
found that *65 percent of Americans believed that climate change was
caused by human activity, an increase of 10 points from a year earlier.*
The poll found that 38 percent of Republicans believed the same thing,
an increase of four points from a year earlier. The poll also found that
76 percent of Americans ages 18 to 29 accepted that human activity is
behind climate change....Republican strategists said it was unclear how
Mr. Trump’s dismissive position on climate change would affect the
party’s future..Hillary Clinton thrusts climate change to the heart of
her campaign, the issue is taking on a prominence it has never before
had in a presidential general election..

*The Ethical Failure and the Damage of Disinformation (15 min video)

This is Donald Brown.. an ethical discussion. I've been following him
for a few years. He's getting more strident.
This video explains why the climate change disinformation campaign
funded by fossil fuel companies, corporations whose economic interests
are threatened by restrictions on fossil fuels, industry associations,
and free-market fundamentalists is morally reprehensible and inexcusable
behavior, in fact perhaps some new kind of crime against humanity. *The
video distinguishes the disinformation campaign from reasonable
scientific skepticism.*
