* Correction * - Stark warning on Atlantic cooling
<http://climatenewsnetwork.net/stark-warning-atlantic-ocean-cooling/>*

The introduction to the report we published on 24 February, "Stark
warning on Atlantic cooling", suggested that climatologists were
saying there was an almost 50% chance that the Labrador Sea in the
North Atlantic Ocean would cool rapidly within the next decade. They
were not in fact suggesting that the warming would happen anything
like as quickly as that. We have republished the report with a
new introduction to clarify this. It now reads:
*"Climatologists say there is an almost 50% chance the Labrador Sea
in the North Atlantic Ocean will cool rapidly _within a single
    decade_ by 2100."*

    Is*Climate Change*to Blame for February's Record-Breaking Heat?
    <http://www.ecowatch.com/record-temperatures-february-2282592085.html>

EcoWatch -‎14 hours ago‎

Meteorologists saw dozens of heat records broken this week, as an
extended stretch of uncommonly warm weather continues across much of
    the U.S...
Also this week, Scott Pruitt took the helm at the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). Pruitt, who has deep ties to the fossil
fuel industry, has described climate science as a "religious belief"
and said he expects to scrap the Clean Power Plan ..
Scientists have found that carbon pollution is warming the planet,
producing more severe weather, including more extreme heat.
February's spate of record-high temperatures offers the most recent
example of how this process plays out.
In Pruitt's home state of Oklahoma, temperatures hit a record 99ºF
earlier this month, more than 40 degrees above the average February
high. Texas, Kansas and Colorado also recorded all-time highs. Over
the long weekend, Chicago endured four consecutive days of record
heat, which coincided with record-setting temperatures in Madison,
    Milwaukee and other Midwestern cities...
"Mr. Pruitt is a clear and present danger to our economic prosperity
and the health of our children," California Senate leader Kevin de
Léon (D) said in a statement. "California will not follow Trump's
destructive path. We've proven that you can protect the environment
    and grow jobs."

*EPA - Understanding the Link Between Climate Change and Extreme Weather
<https://www.epa.gov/climate-change-science/understanding-link-between-climate-change-and-extreme-weather>*

Scientists study many aspects of change in extreme weather and
    climate events. These include:
-- Frequency: Are events occurring more often than they did in the past?
-- Intensity: Are events getting more severe, with the potential for
    more damaging effects?
-- Duration: Are events lasting longer than "the norm"?
-- Timing: Are events occurring earlier or later in the season or
the year than they used to?
Extreme weather is typically rare. But climate change is increasing
the odds of more extreme weather events taking place.

Question time---Carbon Brief interviews the UNFCCC's executive
secretary at an event in London.
Will Donald Trump follow through with his campaign pledge to pull
the US out of the Paris Agreement on climate change? No one is
waiting for the answer to that question more than Patricia Espinosa.
The UNFCCC's executive secretary was in London this week and found
time to answer a few of our questions. No prizes for guessing that
we asked her what influence Trump might have on the international
climate negotiations. This morning, we published her answer, as well
as others on Brexit, "loss and damage" and the 1.5C climate goal.
Regarding the UK's own climate policies, she said it had "very clear
legislation" and its ratification of the Paris Agreement "is really
    very good news".

In a tense exchange with CNN "Crossfire" co-host Robert Novak, EPA
Administrator Christine Todd Whitman states that President George W.
Bush will follow through on his September 2000 campaign pledge to
set firm limits on carbon emissions--a statement that Bush himself
would effectively disavow a month later. Footage of the CNN exchange
is included in the 2007 PBS "Frontline" documentary "Hot Politics."
