Protesters at Wednesday's senate confirmation hearing for Donald
Trump's Secretary of State nominee, former ExxonMobil CEO Rex
Tillerson, had one thing on their mind:*climate change*. .
At Exxon, Tillerson was charged with maximizing profits even at the
expense of a warming planet. As secretary of state, he’ll play a key
role in negotiating a global strategy to combat climate change. The
question is whether he’ll be able to set aside his allegiance to the
fossil fuel industry in favor of true progress on the climate. His
noncommittal answers at today’s hearing —including his refusal to
admit that the scientific evidence for human-caused climate change
    is conclusive—didn’t inspire confidence.

its own scientists' having raised concerns about it

Scientists just discovered a massive pool of carbon in central Africa

The area is now believed to be the largest peatland system in the
global tropics and possibly one of the region’s most important
carbon sinks. ... the Cuvette Centrale peatlands are storing
anywhere from 6.3 billion to 46.8 billion tons of carbon.
If central Africa ...the Congo Basin peatlands ...becomes warmer and
drier in the future, the wetlands could suffer...the region’s
potentially vast carbon stocks have largely flown under the radar
    until now.
