We speak with leading climate scientist Michael Mann about the

disasters more frequent and more intense. “This is the climate crisis.
It’s here and now,” says Mann, director of the Penn Center for Science,

Meanwhile, pressure is mounting for President Biden to declare an

In Hawaii, anger is growing over authorities' response to the deadliest
fire in the US in more than a century. So far the confirmed death toll
stands at 93, but more victims are expected to be found as emergency
crews search burnt-out buildings. Many residents on the island of Maui
say they received no warning despite the siren system in place.

*What Lahaina Lost in Hawaii’s Wildfires*
New York Times Podcasts
Aug 14, 2023 The Daily
Last week, wildfires broke out on the Hawaiian island of Maui that
became the deadliest in the United States in over a century. The town of
Lahaina, once the royal capital of the kingdom of Hawaii, was one of the
places hit hardest — its historic center was decimated, including Waiola
Church, the oldest on the island and a cherished meeting place.
Today, the minister of Waiola Church, Anela Rosa, explains what it means
to lose Lahaina and what it will take to rebuild it.
Guest: Anela Rosa, minister of Waiola Church in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii.
